But at the end of it all, it is the tax man who will smile all the way to the bank, something that points to the viability of the entertainment industry.
If concert organisers, MTN, and Uganda Revenue Authority officials follow the provisions of the 1997 Income Tax Act (Cap. 340), the government stands to bag a neat Shs236.7 million in taxes from the sale of an estimated 30,300 tickets. This assumes that the tickets sold out, which was a possibility as we went to press.

Warid Telecom reduces call charges to other networPublished: 23/02/08

THE telecom price battle is on, with callers emerging winners as operators struggle for subscriber supremacy. Callers can now pay as little as Shs249 to call from Warid telecom's network to any other network.

This follows a 33 per cent reduction in the telecom operator's charges for its subscribers calling other networks to Shs299 from Shs449 (peak time) and to Shs249 from Shs349 (off peak), yesterday.

Aggrey Kagonyera  of MTN received the UB40 members at Entebbe airport yesterday.Ali Campbell  is the lead vocalist. UB40, a British reggae band, is scheduled to perform a single show tomorrow at Lugogo Cricket Oval. The show could perhaps be their last performance as a group because Campbell is set to pursue a solo career. Formed in Birmingham in 1978, the band has performed for close to 30 years, mainly doing cover versions of songs by other artistes. The favourites include Red Red Wine, I Can’t Help Falling in Love and I got You Babe. Members include Norman Hassan, Brian Travers, James Brown and Earl Falsoner. (Related story on page 19)
